Flexibility will become ever more important. Mixed areas, which can partially change and evolve as new needs arise, will appear. Energy, space and time saving will be a concern. Space shall also become a vehicle through which the values and the culture of the organisation are transmitted and a tool with which to motivate the staff.
We shall observe a modification of the spatial concept of work, "when and where" being replaced by "who and how". Thanks to technological progress, it will be possible to work anywhere, though face-to-face meetings shall remain a crucial part of the decision-making process. Offices shall become headquarters, meeting places, places for communication. Different spaces shall exist for different tasks: closed spaces, open spaces, individual and group spaces, formal and informal space. Leisure and service areas shall come to form part of the workplace (travel agents, secretary’s offices, back-offices, nurseries, shopping facilities...) The number of static work posts shall drop in favour of “nomadic” work posts. |
